Privacy Policy — Animei

Animei (animei.space) is a web app for learning Japanese by watching anime and reading adapted news. This page describes exactly what data we store and why. We keep it short because the list is short.

What we store

• Account data — if you register: your email address and a hashed password. We never store passwords in plain text.
• Learning data — words you save, example sentences, short video/audio clips attached to your cards, and your spaced-repetition schedule. This is the product; it is linked to your account so it survives across devices.
• Usage analytics — basic events (page opened, word saved, episode played, review completed) together with IP address, browser user-agent and an anonymous browser identifier. We use this only to understand whether the product works and to filter out bots. No third-party analytics services are involved.
• Local data in your browser — settings, playback position and (for guests) your saved words live in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device until you register.

What we do not do

• No advertising, ad networks or tracking pixels.
• No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties.
• No social-media trackers, no fingerprinting.

Third-party services

Some features send limited data to external services to work:

• AI explanations — when you ask for a sentence breakdown, the Japanese sentence (and only the sentence) is sent to an AI provider to generate the explanation. It is not linked to your identity.
• Dictionary and catalog data — word lookups and anime metadata come from public sources; your queries are proxied through our server.

Cookies

Animei itself works without cookies: authentication uses tokens stored in your browser's localStorage. Standard server logs (IP, time, requested URL) are kept briefly for security and debugging, as on any website.

Deleting your data

Write to us and we will delete your account and everything linked to it within 30 days: busydkk@gmail.com. You can also export your words from the app (My words → export) at any time before deleting.

Children

Animei is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
