Your data is yours

In short

Animei is a tool for learning Japanese, not a data business. We don't sell or share your data with third parties, we show no ads and set no ad trackers. We store only what the app can't work without.

What data we store

  • Account data — your email or login, so you can sign in and keep your progress.
  • Your collection: saved words, phrases from anime and your review progress.
  • Messages you send through the feedback form or by email.
  • Interface settings (like your chosen language) — they live only in your browser, in localStorage.

Where it's stored

Your account, collection and progress are stored on our server — that's what syncs your collection across devices and versions (the web app and the Companion extension). Interface settings stay locally in your browser and are never sent to us. If you use Animei without an account, your collection lives only in the browser, and an anonymous copy of it (no email, no name) is sent to us so we can see what people actually find useful; once you sign in, that copy is deleted.

Third-party services

Animei gets its catalog, metadata and video from external open sources (anime databases and video hosts). When you watch an episode, your browser talks to those services directly — they have their own privacy policies. This site also uses Google Fonts.

Cookies and localStorage

We use localStorage and cookies only to make the app work: your sign-in session, chosen language, player settings. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Deleting your data

Want to delete your account and everything tied to it — collection, progress, messages? Write to us via the support page and we'll delete it all, no questions asked.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. We'll announce significant changes in the app itself.
