Known-word highlighting
Words you already know light up in the subtitles. You can see your progress while you watch.
Put on a show you love with the original voices and Japanese subtitles. See a word you don't know? One click — the meaning, the reading, and a flashcard with that very scene.
Works on desktop and mobile. Your progress is saved.
How it works
Type a title into the catalog and watch it online. No files, no torrents, no setup.
Original voices and Japanese subtitles, synced to every line of dialogue. Subtitles are live text: every word is clickable.
Click an unfamiliar word for an instant card: meaning, reading, part of speech — plus a one-tap “add to collection”, no pauses or tab switching.
Your words become flashcards with a clip of the scene: you review the moment you remember, not an abstract card. Animei reminds you in time.

No need to mine words one by one: the Deck button in the player hands you a ready-made list from the episode — untick what you do not want and start learning.
On your phone
Animei is an app — but it installs with no store and no installer. Add its icon to your home screen and launch it with one tap, like any other app. It opens full-screen and remembers all your words. Free.
Once installed, Animei opens from its icon in full screen — like a normal app, without browser tabs.
Open AnimeiExtension
A browser extension. Keep watching anime wherever you already do — Companion overlays Japanese subtitles and the dictionary right on top of the video.
New JP News
Real Japanese news with furigana above the kanji, a breakdown of every word and AI explanations of each sentence. New words go straight into spaced repetition — free, right in your browser.

No. Bring your known words with you: an Anki deck (.apkg), a WaniKani token, or a text list from jpdb, Takoboto, Akebi, LingQ and other apps. Those words count as familiar right away — they are highlighted in the subtitles, counted in the “you know N% of the words in this episode” meter and never offered as new.
Yes: Japanese subtitles come with translations, and clicking a word brings up the dictionary and a sentence breakdown. You watch the original but always know what's going on.
