Usage and nuance

Two famous openings turn on it. In Steins;Gate Okabe sees Kurisu lying in blood and later cries お前が刺されているのを!, "you being stabbed!". In That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the hero is stabbed on the street and wakes up as a slime: 刺されて死ぬとか…ないわ.

The kanji is the 刺 in 刺身 (sashimi), "pierced body", and in 刺激 (shigeki), "stimulus".

Homophones: 指す (sasu) is "to point at", and 差す (sasu) is "to hold up an umbrella". Only 刺す hurts.
