Usage and nuance
Soul Eater's Japanese title is ソウルイーター, but the dialogue says 魂 constantly, since weapons eat them. In Bleach, souls are what Ichigo escorts to the afterlife. In both, 魂 is a physical thing you can see.
In ordinary speech 魂を込める means "to put your soul into" something, and 大和魂 (yamato-damashii) is the "Japanese spirit" invoked in sports and war films.
The kanji is also read こん (kon) in compounds like 霊魂 (reikon, spirit, soul), which shows up in horror anime.
