Usage and nuance

The opposite is 弱い (yowai, weak), and the pair 強いか弱いか is how shounen measures characters. One-Punch Man exists to mock 強すぎる; Frieren's party talks about 強い mages; Haikyu's players want to 強くなる.

It also covers non-physical strength: 気が強い is strong-willed, 強い酒 is strong liquor, 強い風 is a strong wind.

The noun 強さ (tsuyosa) is "strength", and 最強 (saikyou) is "the strongest", a title that gets thrown around in battle anime.
