うち · uchi
home; my family; inside
Uchi means "home" or "our family", and in casual speech it also works as "I", especially for girls and for speakers from the Kansai region.

Usage and nuance
The core idea is "inside, our side". うちの学校 is "our school", うちの子 is "my kid" or "our kid", and うちに来る? is "Want to come over to my place?"
As "I", うち sounds young, cute or regional. Anime uses it to mark a character from Osaka or Kyoto, or a girl with a casual, friendly voice.
The same idea of "us versus outsiders" shows up in Japanese culture as うち and そと, inside and outside the group, which is why the word feels warm and a little exclusive.
