Where you hear it

Lines from the Japanese subtitles of episodes 1–3 of each show. A translation is shown only when it clearly matches the line; counts are subtitle lines containing the word.

Usage and nuance

まだ食べてない is "I haven't eaten yet", and まだ子供だ is "you are still a kid". It always implies that something is expected to change.

まだまだ is "still far from it" or "not good enough yet". It is both modest and a taunt; Ryoma Echizen in The Prince of Tennis made まだまだだね his catchphrase.

もう and まだ answer each other: もう終わった? "Is it over already?" まだ。 "Not yet."
