Where you hear it

Lines from the Japanese subtitles of episodes 1–3 of each show. A translation is shown only when it clearly matches the line; counts are subtitle lines containing the word.

Usage and nuance

With numbers it means "more" or "another": もう一回 is "one more time", もう少し is "a little more".

Said on its own with a pout, もう! is exasperation, like "geez!" or "come on!". It is a classic line for a character who has just been teased.

もういい is "enough, forget it", a door-slamming line in arguments. Compare まだ (mada), "still" or "not yet", which is its natural opposite.
